An accomplished attorney in the nation’s capital, making 6-figures, Dana has a home, cars, property, family, and friends. Plus, she's beautiful. But love escapes her. Will insecurities, pride, infidelity, & bad choices always plague her? Will she ever learn to trust? Can the hole in her heart ever be made whole again?
In the wee hours of the cool October morning as she slowly neared Preston’s house, Dana’s mind was racing a mile a minute. She could feel her chest rising and falling and could hear her own breath. “Why do I have to do this?” she questioned herself, trying to calm down. “Why can’t I just trust him?” Even though Preston had never given her any reason to believe he had been unfaithful, she’d crept past his house after saying good night at least once a week since she began dating him two years ago.. "This is crazy. Why can’t I let it be and accept that he really loves me, and that I deserve his love?” Dana thought. “Why can’t I just tru…” Dana’s thoughts were halted mid-sentence. “That’s why! Lying bastard. Just like the rest of them!” she said out loud as soon as Preston’s house came into view. Dana could see a strange BMW 525 parked in his driveway. “Bright red. Clearly a woman’s car,” Dana cried knowingly. “And there isn’t a light on in the house.”
Dana’s looks alone gave her her choice from a host of men from all walks of life, and she had dated her fair share of them. In addition to her good looks, she was smart and well educated. She’d graduated high school at the age of 16, gone to Howard University and finished in just three years, then attended Harvard Law school. She was a top lawyer in the DMV area, which is saying a lot considering how saturated with lawyers the part of the country was. She worked for Paramax, arguably the number one law firm in the area. She owned her own house, and two rental properties in Baltimore, drove a convertible Mercedes Benz and a Porsche truck. She was well paid, and had great financial investments. However, all of this was not enough. Despite all of her success, she was extremely insecure when it came to love. Her past relationships had left what seemed to be a permanent hole in her heart. Healing it might just not be in the cards.
“Dana! You didn’t introduce him? And I bet he still hasn’t met your mother. Has he?” Jade knew he hadn’t, but added the question for emphasis.
“Well..... not yet. I’ve been meaning to introduce him," Dana lied.
“What is the deal? You guys have been seeing each other for what, five, six months?”
“Almost six,” Dana confessed.
“He is a really good guy Dana, and he’s crazy about you. You told me you've met all of his friends, and his sister loves you. Dana I saw the look on his face when you called it ‘just a kiss on the cheek’ after Katie pointed out how he greeted you. He was hurt.” Jade was serious at this point. “This man has been around for nearly six months and you haven’t even had sex with him. Still he’s remained committed to you and has treated you like a queen. Girl, what's the matter? The least you can do is introduce him to the important people in your life. At some point this is going to become a problem for him. You know he’s an excellent catch. I’m just saying.”
Dana listened to Jade as she said the things that she already knew to be true. For all of her therapy and all of the time that has passed, no matter how good she was treated, she still could not shake the feeling that this guy, like all the men in her past, would end up being unfaithful.
